Went through hell getting this 84 302 auto. throttle body car to start New coil, dist,TFI module.and it started, yet when I hook up spout connector car goes into stumbling stalling running like SH*t you guys got ant suggestion runs smooth with spout disconnected so I don't believe its fouled plugs or such.Did every voltage test in manual. except the yellow wire on spout that goes to computer.I am a novice here any help greatly appreciated.

retard the timing about 8 to 15 degrees with the spout connector still connected.

Then start the car.

If it runs better, then, while the engine is running and you have a timing light on it remove the connector and check the timing.

If the timing is on or near the required marks, try to set it to the exact spot required, then plug in the spout connector and record the amount of advance the connector adds to the timing.

Call up a dealer and talk to a mechanic and ask how many degrees the spout connector is supposed to advance the timing at idle. You may have a bad spot in your computer, or you may just have a bad connector.... something along those lines.

I believe it advances 20 degrees. That is added to your base timing. Where does your timing read with the spout disconnected ? Is it 10 degrees give or take a couple?

That's what I was trying to get him to figure out so he would know in the future what to look for and allow him to help others as well. And still let him think he'd done it with his own smarts...

Thanks Guys
I will get this thing going with your help.I don't know if on these computer cars the timing changes effects the smoothness so to speak .On my 390 old galaxie if I move dist. advance or retard it just speeds up or slows down. This thing idles smooth and revs smooth with spout disconnected.with spout connected it misses and stumbles and goes up and down in speed. Thanks again.Jimmy

REMOVE THE SPOUT Jimmi, then set the timing by adjusting the Dist. when you get to between 6 and 10 degrees. plug the spout back in adn she should run perfect!
