Why is my car so slow??
you need to base line this car,get as close to stock as you can and have competant empathetic TECH find the problem. As good as these guys are on this site, you will need to get the car closer to the computer for them to diagnose the problem on the internet (a little service writer humor there)but seriously QUIT RACING A BROKEN VEHICLE.As a service writer i have to be a detective too, since you've owned it has it ever run good, what is check engine light history(on since you got it ,fast flash, sometimes on etc.)how about mpg any changes there?was car a REAL BARGIN ,too cheap to pass up?i don't know much about saleens but are the engines desirable enough to swap for plain 5.0 ,leaving you with a crown vic motor?Coolreed asks an interesting question about the axle-could it be fake saleen?if you came to my shop(12 bays and we all got hot rods)i would recommend the dealer, find one in your area with at least one or two hopped up foxes in the employee lot-they're there i promise you .good luck and come up to PUYALLUP ,WA krispy kreme some weekend !

Why is my car so slow??
I'm sure the car is a real saleen, still has everything from the plaque on the firewall, stickers in the doors, plaque on the shifter bezel, Recaro seats, saleen gauge cluster, and i've seen another saleen at PIR with the same rearend, and the same deal with the D/S tailpipe sitting too close to the bumper. As far as the motor the headers (which it still has) and some vanity pieces were all the changes i knew of. I've been working as a mechanic for a little over two years now, but i'm fairly new to the fox body mustangs. The car gets excellent mileage, 16 around town and 25mpg on the freeway. The check engine light has flashed on about twice in the eight months i've owned it and the codes reported EGR issues. Also i've only made 5-6 passes at PIR with it since i've owned it, so i'm not out beating it every weekend when its not performing as i feel it should. I actually didn't cash out on the car but instead traded my 3000gt VR4 ( twin turbo v6 AWD AWS ) for it. I was doin the import thing for awhile ( not the big wings or painting odd parts of my interior ) but i'd really rather put my faith into a motor that makes good power normally aspirated than to fall back on turbos to make an anemic motor perform. I take very good care of the car, I work as a service tech for Gordon Trucking so i'm not a complete tard when it comes to keeping my car well serviced and clean I just don't know much about them as its my first mustang, and I started the thread to hopefully find some common problems that i could use as a starting point to figure out whats up with mine

well, I dont think you got it from the rip off artist I got mine from as he had an 88 saleen and would have passed it off for 89 if he could. Anyways, Steve Saleen does not put out shabby work, and yes, I still agree that you're not turning a good enough time for what you should have. As 'badmts' said, without someone physically being there, it IS a struggle to help you 100% on the site. Im sorry, wish I was right there to help, but I'm not. I am wondering now how long the previous owner had it, and what type of person was he. I f he tried to port those heads himself, and not quite knowing what he was doing...that could really screw things up.

when i first read the codes that it had popped i wondered the same thing, haha. I'm having a pain in the ass time finding the hose for the emissions system, only dealers that have it are in alabama and california, i'm in oregon. so i'm gonna be waiting to see if this will help.

I would get everything fixed right before you go advancing the timing. Have the fuel pressure checked and replace the O2 sensors (they do need to be replaced every so often anyway) after you get the EGR Stuff Worked out and verify their are no other problems. Then bump the timing.
And ditch the platnium plugs and put some regular motorcrafts in.

your 60' time is bad if you were to get that to a 2.0 or 1.9 that could almost shave off an entire second.. its all won or lost at the line.. try working on your 60' times
just my .02 cents
