fox body 514 swap

Been a Ford muscle car nut all my life. Have a 69 torino cobra 428 4sp, with all that made this car a muscle car. Had a 71 torin cobra that I built a 514 385series to drop in. I have since sold the 71 and now have a 1990 fox body Mustang 5.0 that I want to drop the 514 in. I need to be brought to speed on these more modern cars. I'm sure there is anything aftermarkert available to make this swap and suspension parts to make it go straight. I am unfamiliar with the vendors that offer the parts that I need. If you guys and gals can bring me up to speed on the vendors that you have used and your success with their parts, it will be greatly appreciated. I had to give up on the trail and error methods year ago, it costs too much money. This is a stock fox body that I am starting from scratch with and everyone is looking for the bang for the buck method, including me. The car will not be an all out drag car for now, but maybe someday down the road.
Thank you,
Rick

fox body 514 swap

Snake,
I have performed this swap on a 91 GT using a Ford Racing 514 crate motor. The first suggestion I would make is to use a motor plate instead of the adapter mounts. i found in my case the adapter mounts put the engine about 3 inches higher and gave me big problems with header clearance, etc. Now I did find that using the motor plate forced me to use a Flaming River manual rack, it has a much skinnier barrel. Also you will be forced to buy a power booster eliminator plate from summit or jegs, the booster hits the valve cover. Other than that I put in a tubular K-member as well as adjustable strut plates and coil overs. the only other big issue I ran into was I ran an electric water pump (Meiziere brand) and once that was mounted on the front of the engine I was forced to mount the electric fan on the outside of the radiator. Only a couple of inches between the front of the water pump and the radiator.
PM if you have any other specific questions. I know I used the hooker swap headers without a lot of problems, and I also used the Flaming River steering shaft. Good Luck,

Jim
