HO motor with fuel pump on the timing cover, so whick motor???
Thanks guys, guess I should have added what I've done to it.
Replaced injector harness from later model, no change. I listened to all the injectors with a stethescope, the one with the metal probe that you can touch to a part, and found that #2 was not clicking, so I replaced it. Once off, I use part of the old harness and connected it to 12v source and it was not moving or clicking, then tested another one that did move and click. Reinstall it, and listened again, sounds like its clicking now with motor running. I pulled the valve cover off to check that the valves were actuating properly and they seemed to be. Didn't notice a broken valve springs or rocker arm. I really didn't expect to find that as when I checked compression, it was over 150 psi for that cylinder, and all checked 150 or better, so I figured the motor is tight. I also did a fuel presure check, and at idle, I had about 38 psi, but still have the miss.
On firing order, I tried the other order in the Hanes manual non-HO and it would hardly run. Once my Dad found a 289 that someone had moved 2 wires around on, but I can't remember how we determined which 2. I've got it set at the HO firing order now. Come to think of it, its running about like that 289 motor ran though.
If the injectors plugs are running on HO order, and the cylinders/cam are on a different order, would't I have to move both the injector pins on the computer plug to get the injectors right, and then determine the right plug wires too? Hope its that simple.
