92 5.0 Issue

Hey Guys!

I have an issue that I can't seem to resolve. To begin with the 92 GT is completely stock except for a 93 Cobra intake, 1.7 roller rockers, underdrive pulleys, offroad h pipe, dumped flowmasters, msd pro billet distributor, msd 6a ignition, moroso ultra 40 plug wires, and new 19 lb injectors.

The Problem . . .

While driving the car easy the engine wants to bust out and drop cylinders. We just put new plug wires and plugs (autolite 26) on last night (8/1/07) and it continues to drop cylinders. We replaced the plug wires because after further inspection we found that the old wires were grounding out and the plugs weren't getting fire. The car has been doing this since july 06 after we put a new cap and rotor on the stock distributor. We have narrowed it down to an ignition problem because the engine is getting fuel. Hence the disticnt odor coming from the exhaust. I'm getting frustrated trying to figure out whats going on, because we have replaced anything and everything possible I believe. If any of you guys have had this similar problem PLEASE HELP!!!

Re: 92 5.0 Issue

double check the ground circuit going to the coil. if all is good try to find a known good msd box. they are not invincable.and then check the coil itself. most loss of spark problems have to be dealt with like that. thank you solid state. what i mean is you cant see the inner workings of that coil or msd box unless you pretty much have a microscope. so remember to keep it simple. prime example, i switched from a good, working msd 6, to a used msd 6al on race day. i completely blew one of my only 2 qualifying runs because of that. by the way, the 6al was only 2 months old.

Re: 92 5.0 Issue

by the way, do you know how to determine if a car is a 7-up car?

90 lx vert, white top, leather gt seats, dark green metallic, 5.0?

Re: 92 5.0 Issue

Sorry can't help you with the "7-Up" car. I don't know much about them. We did try replacing the coil about a month ago and it still acted up. The MSD6 box is a working box. We just actually put the msd6 on the car maybe 5 weeks ago.

Some more info . . .

We have noticed that the car "busts out" whenever you hit a bump or the road you driving on is really rough. We're now wondering if there could be a loose connection somewhere between ignition switch and the starting solenoid or in the harness that runs to the TFI module

Any thoughts . . .
