Re: Header Gaskets

havent used gaskets in years. neither the race car nor the street cars. use a grinder and file to get the flange even. if u want to keep a ring of weld, fine. flatten and even out the contact area. apply red hi temp rtv, let gel for about 15 minutes & sock them down. if u did it right, no leaks & the bolts wont back out.

Re: Header Gaskets

Don't use any paper type gaskets.

My suggestions:

Good: Mr. Gasket Ultra-Seal (the black composite type)

Better: Aluminum layered

Best: Copper

note: the metallic gaskets will require several heat and retorquing cycles, but they are reuseable.

Also, you may have issues with your header flanges (BBK is no the best quality product), but the matallic gaskets allow for more conforming to such imperfections.

Thumbs up Re: Header Gaskets

Use Cometic Head Gaskets. They are the best.

Re: Header Gaskets

Well, I had the same problem with my Cleveland...I tried to get alum and they weren't available...so I used a junk aluminum street sign...cut it with a jig saw...sanded it smooth...anealed it with acetalyne...applied a thin film of red RTV...and bolted them up with the Stage 8 bolts I got...basically, I wanted to do the red RTV...but didn't want to unhook the whole exhaust to move the headers to get the rtv around the ports...overkill...probably...total cost about $5...
