Do you know the series of the alternators? The wiring harnesses are different.

The first thumbnail is a 2G and the second is a 3G.

The 2G harness is susceptable to fire. The two BAT leads develop resistance. It is important that the ALT connectors be replaced by a new connector(s) available from most any large parts jobber.

Re: alternator hookups

I dont see a light green with red on my car. There is a dark green with yellow dot or white with pink dot. these wires are cut and not hooked up? What do they go to?

Post Re: alternator hookups

The schematic shown is a generalization, used to retrofit a 2G. For exact vehicle wire colors you will have to refer to the proper vehicle schematic.

Wouldn't it be easier to find the correct ALT? The 2G is subject to electrical fire.

Re: alternator hookups

the wires where cut, the car use to have 6 cyl. now has 351w. Not sure if alt. that was in it was hooked up right. had alternator checked and it was charging. Then alt. front blew out! A friend had a alt. for 20.00 out of Aerostar. Happened to be 2g, so i bought new plug for it.
