Buying a 1989 mustang

Hello. I have been looking at a 1989 mustang coupe and I was wondering if anyone may be able to provide anything to look for prior to buying it. The car is original except the 1992 5.0L engine that had replaced the old 1989 engine. The fan shroud is missing , the clutch seems a bit firm, although it has a centerforce replacement. Original navy blue paint, blue cloth interior, original rims, Comp TA's, no visible rust issues. Price $5000.00, but negotiable. Mileage is at 170,000. Now is this too much for the mileage and considering the owner is not really sure how many miles are on the 1992 engine. Also missing is a couple of hoses for the air conditioning, not sure how hard it is to find them them or where they hook up. I will be doing a test drive tomorrow weather permitting and the bald back tires speak for themselves. Just new to the 5.0L threads ,but have been working on my 1966 coupe. Need a second car to complete my classic.

Thanks for any info
Greg

i think that it is to high for not knowing what the motor is and missing parts it to much for the car

Re: Buying a 1989 mustang

The car does have missing components that could put the price up considering the air conditioning seems to be missing more than two hoses. What are the chances this car is a 4 cylinder to v8 swap. How can one check that. Will it be on the drivers door tag.

Thanks
Greg

For that mileage plus engine swap it is a 2500 dollar car if that.

Re: Buying a 1989 mustang

Again, I appreciate the responses so I don't make a bad choice. I have seen a lot of these cars for sale and I'm sure they are not in the best of shape. I will keep looking.

if you run a carfax you will know if it was a 4 banger or not and if anything was wrong with the car but i would give more than 2500 from what you've told us

What year of 5.0L mustang would be the better choice between 1988-1993. I don't think there where too many changes with the model years.

in 88 just for the cali cars they made them mass air but in 89 all mustangs went to mass air.so any one from 89-93 will be a good choice
