Exclamation Head swap questions - please help

Hey All,

I picked up a set of GT-40Y heads from a buddy for a good price and they have less than 10K on them. I have never swapped heads before. I have a '95 motor that is running a carb now. What do I have to do to swap them? What do I have to get?

They are in good order and I figured I can just move my rockers on to them from my stock head. Put on some new gaskets and bolt them on. Is it that easy? What else do I have to do? Any and all help would be appreciated. Also what kind of power gains can I expect? Just running a stock '95 motor with 600 4bbl carb, dual plan intake, and 2.25 exhaust from long tube headers.

Thanks very much for any and all info that you can provide.
Richard.

I believe there will be little noticeable diffrence. Not "none" just not a lot.

Do you know the physical diffrence in the heads I.E. Chamber size valve size Etc... As compared to yours?

Re: Head swap questions - please help

right now I have stock 5.0 heads from a '95 motor. the GT40Ys are a little old but they breath much better than my stocks ones I am sure.. here are the specs on the heads:

GT40Y
Intake valve - 1.94
Exhaust valve - 1.54
Int.100 - 64
Int.200 - 114
Int.300 - 167
Int.400 - 199
Int.500 - 213
Int.600 - 217

I don't know what my stock heads are. I will take a look and see what I can find for specs on them. This is what I found but don't know that it is accurate yet.

The stock valve size is 1.78 intake and 1.45 exhaust. Combustion chambers are 61.5 cc's
Ford 302 E7TE Iron
Intake valve - 1.78
Exhaust valve - 1.45
Int.100 - 52
Int.200 - 95
Int.300 - 132
Int.400 - 143
Int.500 - 159
Int.600 - n/a

I also have a nice dual plan intake, not the greatest but nice. On the other side I have Headman long tube headers with dual 2.25 pipe out the back. Will also be adding cut outs and a cross over pipe this summer.

According to my reading these heads work well for both stock set ups and modified motors. I don't expect a 40 hp gain on these but I am sure that they are worth 20 to 30 for the stock motor and a lot more with a cam. One article I read said it was money well spent. Then another article said not to waste my money. Man.. I just wish I knew.
