Re: 4cyl to V8 Conversion
Yo Pete,
Brooke picked up our new 8.8 from Scribner yesterday, if I can figure out how
to post pictures to this site I will take a few of the new 8.8 and put them up here.
It turned out really nice, We won't be breaking anything now. 33 spline Moser axle's are huge!
On another subject, have you started your stroker yet? I have cam/dist gear
worries that I want to bounce off you. I posted them on the tech board

Re: 4cyl to V8 Conversion
Yo Pete,
Brooke and I started the Mudstain last Sunday, It fired up and runs great.
I was really worried about the pee-pee 1/8 inch roll pin that came with the MSD steel distributer gear. I talked to the MSD tech line guys and they told me there had been no problems with the small pin that they were aware of. The OEM pin is 3/16.
Anyway, this thing is an animal, it hits the 7000 rpm chip so freaking quick its amazing!
We set the shift light at 6600 but the light hardly shuts off between shifts.
I think we will be going with a 3500 chip in the two step for launch, a 7200 in the 6AL box for max RPM and 7000 chip for the shift light, and go from there.
One more thing, Brooke is going to run a Dedenbear delay box, which I don't like but he is insisting on it. Do you have any experience with one of them?

Re: 4cyl to V8 Conversion
Well nice to hear you got it running. Sent the fairlane off to paint a week or so ago. It will be gone most of the summer.
Picked up a 92 Mustang. 4cyl 5 speed today. Ex-tweeker car(found a needle and the cooking spoon). Not in too bad shape needs some little stuff, but man does the intieror stink..Might need to replace all the interior pieces. Just trying to get it running now. Needs a radiator. Got any extra pieces laying around? How about that other 8.8 you were talking about?
As far as delay boxes I have no experience with them. Don't really understand the tech behind them. Why does he want one? Can't use them execpt in super pro bracket. You guys running a class or something?
Pete

Re: 4cyl to V8 Conversion
I thought we could run the box iin any bracket event? He wants it to help
him be more consistant. Its a goofy deal, you set it on the stage light and it releases the trans brake on a delay.
I pulled the 8.8 out of our car last Sunday to install the new one.
Its available and already 5 lug.
I used to have tons of parts laying around, but have slowly weined myself from collecting so much sh_t. Are you trying to get it started with the 2300?

Re: 4cyl to V8 Conversion
Check the NHRA Rulebook/website. I'm pretty sure only Super Pro bracket can run electronics.
For the Mustang I'm trying to get running with the 4cyl. I need something to run to town with since gas is so much. Running the V10 in the truck cost about $20 a trip.
Hey since you went to five lug, you got any 4 lug wheels and tires down there in good shape? I've got your phone number around here somewhere. Proabably need to take a trip down to see you. I want to see your Mustang.
Pete

Re: 4cyl to V8 Conversion
I got rid of all the old 4-lug tires and wheels. My neighbor is a hulk hauler, and he may have some tires. He always likes to make friends with guys in your line of work.
We put the new 8.8 in last Sunday and the front brace hits the coil springs,
F_ck! I have to pull it back out, cut the brace back and re-tig it to the housing, the High School race is on May 2nd. I wanted to get this thing to the track several times before that.
You're always welcome at my place. At least if the gates open. I close it when busy if you know what I mean. I had to come up with some type of system, all of my hotrod buddies were stopping by while we were busy and it was starting to piss her off. It's a good system. I know, to much information
but hey, a guy has to have priorities. Cars, Beer and p_ssy!
I'll PM you with my numbers.
Gregg

Re: 4cyl to V8 Conversion
I picked up a radiator and some 4 lug wheels today. Got the interior cleaned out!!! About 10 packs of cig butts and one more needle!!!!! Also found his dope pouch zip tied to the wiring under the hood, luckily there was no dope in it.
Now I need to see if I can get it running. It turns over so there is hope.
PM'd a reply with my numbers.
Pete

Whaaa Whooo
Hey Pete,
Brooke and I just got back from Pacific Raceway, our coupe did better than I expected.
Brooke's first pass was a 11.79 @ 116 MPH
His 2nd pass was 11.73
I ran the third pass and turned a 11.83 @ 114 .02 R.T. but backed up at the 1000'
Brooke ran the fourth pass, it was a 11.71 @ 117, I hate teenagers!
The car bogged every single pass off the line, we were trying to work that out but it got sick after the fourth pass. We couldn't figure what was wrong at the track so we loaded and came home. I will run a compression test tomorrow. I hope nothing is wrong there.
If we get this thing to run off the line and stay off the rev limiter 11.20s? I think there is a 1/2 second to gain.
We are running an old school Offy 360 intake and a nasty old 600 cfm DP Holley, I have an 850 and Victor Jr, that alone should be worth something?
I know what Turets feels like now! I was so surprised!

Re: Whaaa Whooo
I read your post in the drag race section then read this one.
I don't remember what cubic inch motor you had built, but if its over 302 I would ditch the offy and the 600. Probably not getting enough fuel. Plugs look lean?
I have a Vic Jr on mine with custom built pro systems carb that flows like 860 or there abouts. For the price of the pro-system carb it was less that Holley 950. Pro-system will set the carb to you engine specs.
As you know I have not run mine yet, but everyone says that pro-system is ready out of the box and may only need one or jet sizes to be fine tuned.
I take it you ditched the delay box?
Nice runs. I bet 11.00 to 11.10 when you get it straightened out.
Pete
