Shorty headers on a Fairmont

Will the shorty headers for a Mustang 79-95 work okay on a 78 Fairmont? I've been searching and they always say 86-up, am I missing something?

Re: Shorty headers on a Fairmont

79 to early 85 were manifolds, then came the tubular shorty headers. I got a pair of shorties for my '84 GT and they bolted up no problem.

Re: Shorty headers on a Fairmont

Yep,
Back in '87 I owned a 68 Mustang with a 302 and wanted shorty headers. SO I went to the junk yard, found a totaled '86 Stang and bought the shorty tube headers and bolted them right up to my '68. I painted them with high-temp paint, baked them in an oven.

Re: Shorty headers on a Fairmont

'86 was the first year the Capri/Mustang had a true dual exhaust.Headers, Catt'ed H pipe and dual mufflers and tails. The same applies to 79 to 85 cars IF you run a shorty header of some kind AND a dual hump crossmember to make the "later' stuff fit.
