9" housing in a Fox Body

Are the upper control arm mounts raised on after market FoxBody 9"
housings?

I want to keep the factory rear geometry correct. Our car launches
straight with the factory control arm locations, and feel if I convert to a 9" rear that the upper mounts will be raised at the housing and move the lift towards the rear on our car. Am I dreaming or?

Thanks.

Re: 9" housing in a Fox Body

We wound up having an 8.8 modified using an Auburn gear 33 spline posi, 9"
ends, Mosier axles, a custom Sribner housing brace, and girdle. The final decision to run a 8.8 was made because we may want to run the car in the "stock eliminator" class some day.

Thanks for the help.

Not a bad choice. Consider a truck housing as they are stronger.

Re: 9" housing in a Fox Body

Years ago, I changed out the 7.5 rear axle in my 83, 5-speed. Got a complete 9 in.axle set up from Currie. At at the time, 8.8's were still in the habit of breaking, even with nearly stock Mustangs running on the track.

Time changes, thinking, tires are better, tracks are better maintained, gears are more precise and things evolve...I will not be swaping for an 8.8, I still think a 9 in. is a better choice in the long run. However, going for the 9 in. is not as automatic as it used to be. There are a lot of strong running 8.8's that are surviving behind some very strong engines. Fact is, its only 0.2 smaller, the design is still pretty much the same. I guess the only real, practical benefit is the removable, easily replaceable center on a 9.

I say, run the 8.8 until it breaks, if it does - then make a change.

Ps: the only issue I have with the Auburn differentail is they are not re-buildable ... 'least thats that word I keep hearing. Something about the cone clutches?

By the time you make all the recommended upgrades...unless you can do most of the work yourself - are you really saving any money.

Re: 9" housing in a Fox Body

I did read that the Auburn cone posi is not rebuildable which sucks, but It's the only option with 33 spline axles unless I was willing to go spool which I am not. I still want to be able to drive this car on the street from time to time.

I have a lot of nine inch parts kicking around, I even have the alignment bar, bushings and tools to narrow housings correctly and would much rather go the 9" route, but the final decison to run aan 8.8 was based on Stock Eliminator class rules, that and I'm not screwing with it myself, Bill Scribner is building this one, all we have to do is bolt it together and beat on it!
