5 lug front conversion

Picked up a 92 LX coupe 4cyl 5spd toady. Eventually it will get a 302 and TKO 5 spd.

What parts are needed to convert the front brakes to 5 lug? Are the 4cyl spindles the same as 5.0?

Thanks
Pete

I'd say convert to SN95 spindles so you can run either the 11" GT brakes or the 13" Cobra brakes. As long as you get a spindle w/ the hub assembled and everything, not much is needed besides the calipers, rotors, and 5 lug wheels. FRPP also sells a complete front and back kit though it's expensive and a junk yard crawl would give you the same parts for less.

Re: 5 lug front conversion

Pete, we used Ranger rotors, they bolted right on, but I had to take a grinder to the inside top of the caliper to make a bit more clearence for the rotor, it only took about five minutes a side. I'm not sure, but the 92 may have bigger brakes than our 86. We also need to get some bigger brakes on the front, with the new motor stopping is a real issue.

Re: 5 lug front conversion

I used 90 Lincoln Mark rotors on my conversion. Did not have to clearance anything. Bolted right on and used the same wheel bearings. Just make sure you use the correct backspacing on the wheels you select. Also if you want a larger variety of wheels to choose from, I suggest you do the SN95 brake conversion. I chose this route becasue of the wheels I wanted to use.

The 4cyl spindles are smaller. You will need to change them and use the V8 spindles. The 4 cyl rotors are smaller in diameter as well.

Re: 5 lug front conversion

There are a few options in doing this one is the ranger rotors this requires turning the rotor down to 10" from 10.5 . a 4 cylinder car used the same spindle from 1982 up to 1993 . so any rotor that fits a 82-86 v8 car will fit the 93 -4 cylinder. 87 -93 v8 cars had bigger spindles and brakes you can use the lincoln mark VII 85-91 11" rotors on them . The best setup is the spindles and hardware off the 94 -GT
with 11" brakes or the 13" cobra . these brakes with slotted rotors will stop real well .

Did a 1994-1995 V6 Mustang have 11" front brakes?

Yes the 94 V6 had the same spindal as the gt and cobra but the cobra has 13" brakes and has to have 17"wheels or larger . The GT and V6 have 11" brakes and can run 15' wheels

Re: 5 lug front conversion

I'd get the 99-04 GT/V6 brakes since those cars had 11" brakes but w/ duel piston calipers mad from Aluminum vs. Cast Iron.

Aluminum Vs Cast Iron? Did some of the 94 & newer have aluminum calipers?

One thing I am curious about is the width on the 94 up spindles and 11" brakes, I do not want to increase the track at all, do you guys know if using that set will make the wheels stick out?
