Hate to say it but your dad is right. That engine isnt radical enough for 1' 3/4 . those are only for high rpm applications. The 5/8 will help you more down low

Re: what long tubes??? what size???? what mufflers???

Sorry man, stay with your dad on this one... 3" exhaust will sound cool (LOUDER), but horsepower wise and drivability wise stay with the 2.5 max. 40 flows would be a preferance because they do sound awesome outside the car, but the resonance inside the car is a bit much on long drives. (read headache)
Your not needing anymore on your exhaust system unless you start near the 351 stroker range like 393,408,etc. Even then your not really using all of it. Really its HP Big Block territory.
If you really think about it 1 5/8 are abit over the top for your build. 1 1/2 would give you better throttle response.

I know how hard it is to read forums, Magazines, listening to friends, and not want the Hardcore parts but realisticly some of the best performing setups are "boring looking". "Yah ive seen that setup in countless articles."
But whats really important? When you step on the gas, it flys!
Good luck and have fun.

Yep, Dad is correct, but..... I like the big tubes for sound and looks myself, and I am 50. If want to really get the "old fart" going, tell him you want to run 3" Dyno-Max bullits! Loud as hell, and although technically a muffler they don't do much to quiet things down.

Whats wrong with Kids these days, sheeesh!

Your dad's recommendations fit your application better.

Bigger is not always better.

Plus, it'll be cheaper to buy.

listen to your pops.if you really have your heart set on being loud then do 3 inch pipes from the muffs or a 3 inch cat back but those arent cheap.other than that the 1.5 inch headers and hpipe or xpipe is what you want to stay with
