Larger selection of wheels, stronger, better brake upgrades, and slightly wider track width.

Re: benefit of converting to 5 lug?

I find it irritating that Ford chose to equip the Fox body with 4-lug instead of 5-lug.

It must have been a bean counter behind that decision.

Now Ford is building a 3/4 ton truck with 7-lug wheels! What crap, I will never buy one.

Look at it this way if they can save 2.00 on 4 studs and nuts on 1,000,000 trucks or cars they have saved a pocket full of coin . That is the the way the bean counters look at it .

Re: benefit of converting to 5 lug?

The FOX body is a fairly light chassis. There are lots of lighter weight cars that run 4-lugs. There are also lots of these mustangs running very fast on 4-lugs.

I don't think Ford ever thought the aftermarket, would blow up the way it did for these cars too. Unfortunately, by the time it really got going, Ford had switched the next generation mustang to 5-lug.

The 3/4 ton F250 now uses 8 lugs. I think the only time 7 were used was w/ the non Super Duty F250 and the 7700 F150. But yeah, strength and aftermarket are the reasons to go 5 lug.

Re: benefit of converting to 5 lug?

my 82 gt had 5 lug disk convesion on rearend wen i bought it,so i put 85 ranger rotors on front with 85 lx wheel bearings and rotors and pads.a real nitemare but it worked.stick with what you got if possible, cause the only difference is mustang wheel selection.
