No drive in overdrive, AOD

I just picked up a nice 92 mustang coupe, 4 cyl, AOD. 140,000 or 240,000 miles?

I went to go get an alignment done was driving in O.D. and it acted like it popped out of gear. After stopping and trying to take off again I could here a faint whirring noise, selected Drive and heard the noise for a second then it started to drive normal. With it in drive it seems to have 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Trans fluid looks ok. Any suggestions? Also I did drive it about 10 miles after the noise with no problems. Just left it in Drive.

Future plans are a 5.0 and 5 spd. But wanted to drive it for awhile so I can park the gas hog Bronco.

Thanks

Re: No drive in overdrive, AOD

Time for a valve body rebuild!! This is least I would do . This is not for the"faint of heart" Lots of little balls, valves and seals and trans very finiky about its valve body. Must be done perfect. Also on top of body there are pistons and other such goodies. I did one so I could put in a shift kit and let me tell you. IT AINT FUN!!! Took me three times to get it right!!!! When I screwed mine up it acted like yours is doing. Thats why I suggest body rebuild

Try adjusting the bands.
That many miles and they probably never been done.
May get you by till the trans swap.

True, in the end a rebuild is almost certain with that many miles
