I need advice on buying a 1995 mustang gt

Hello all

I have a 66 coupe and the opportunity came up to buy a 1995 GT. The car is silver , black interior, 5sp and the 302 roller engine. I believe this is the last year for the 302 before they changed to the 4.6 model. Are these cars reliable as most with your average repairs or do they have problems inherited from some design issue. They seem very straight forward , computer controlled 302. Any suggestions on what to look for. How do the differentials hold up on the car. The mileage is around 150000.

Thanks

Greg

I have a 95 GT in my garage right now, getting a new motor put into it because the old one blew up. They are fairly simple cars and fun to drive. Just make sure that the previous owner(s) haven't been extremely hard on it. The owners that own the one in my garage was hard on it and finally the motor gave out. They are good cars overall as far as I know. Also they are easy to find aftermarket parts for!

Well , the last year of any car (302) is suspect at best. They(Ford) do not place a lot of effort on any last year models period!!! Milage is also very HIGH and a full rebuild of motor is likley REAL soon. HOLD ON, though, If you have a resto in mind this is a great car and any push rod is worth saving. Deal like HELL on the car then make it yours if you have a lot of time and $ to put in it. This is a good model if you have the right intentions. 5 speed GT, 302 , come on man, do it if your gonna see it through!!!! Body good and straight?? Rust??? Interior??? Paint?? Clutch good?? transmission etc.??? Lot`s to think of. Just my thoughts

A 95 will spank a stock 96 Gt. I worked at the dealer when the 96s came out and figured every on who had a 95 would be happy they did not wait. 150k is nothing to be worried about if it was taken care of. We have a 95 v6 car which has 220k on it.

Re: I need advice on buying a 1995 mustang gt

Thanks for the info. I will be taking a look at the car today and from all the information received it has been well maintained with documentation to back it. I was originally looking for a 1988-1993 but the prices are as high and most have been done over with aftermarket parts. I do like the look of the 95's and your average car thats been upgraded has been run hard.

Thanks
Greg

Re: I need advice on buying a 1995 mustang gt

Back Again

The engine that came with the car was rated at 215 hp. Now the older cars where 225hp why would the rating drop or what I should ask is is if one wanted to bump the hp up what is the simpliest way to do that , exhaust, computer chip. I don't want to get into a full cam change , already knee deep in work on the 289 in the 66 coupe. Do the chips work well for upgrades.

Thanks
Greg

Re: I need advice on buying a 1995 mustang gt

There were a few minor changes, but not significant. The biggest killer is the ECU. A chip does help if it is simply reprogrammed to early FOX GT A9L specs. Don't bother with tunes for high-octane on a low-compression, stock engine.

Basic upgrades for more pep: Gears, Exhaust (unequal shorty headers, 2-1/2" X or H-pipe, and cat--back), street oriented under-drive pulleys, and induction upgrades. A quality shifter liek a Pro-5.0 or Steeda is very nice to have on the manual tranny too.

As for the mileage, those 5.0's run forver if treated right. I rebuilt mine at 225,000, and although it used a little oil, the thing was in great shape. In fact, it probably would have survived another 100,000 with no problems, but I wanted more power.
