Stock engines are "safe" up to 6 lbs of boost, maybe 8 lbs...if you are careful, use a good ingniton retard and always use permium gas, the higher octane the better.
The downside is the stock block startes to self-destruct when it gets in the 450-500 hp zone. You will start to run into head gasket failures, then getting enough fuel to keep up with the engine, then oil pressure becomes erratic.
Finally...boost is addictive. No matter what you say, now - sooner or later you will want to crank up the boost...just a little. a good after market super charger kit will deliver an easy, safe 50% hp boost at 5 - 6 lbs. At 10 - 12 lbs, it will double the factory rating. At that point heat, intercoolng, detonation and common sense will become your main issues.
