Re: weight reduction?

That was in reference to carbon fiber.

However, don't put a price tag on quality. The QA1 may be a nice piece but considering the lack of meat in it and no cross brace (Ford must have a reason to use one as stock), that makes me nervous. For street use, I'd go MM.

You need to check again. All OEM body panels were steel.

Re: weight reduction?

As of 1994 ALL Mustangs have had fiberglass hoods and rear decklids. Ford did that to help shed a few pounds off of the now heavier cars. Go check, (I just did on 3 different cars) the hoods and rear decks are fiberglass.

Re: weight reduction?

On my 03, I'm pretty damn sure it's steel, however, the reinforcements on the underside are fiberglass.

Talking Re: weight reduction?

Well if you can get a magnet to stick to it let me know, because I want the worlds first fiberglass magnet! We have in stock a 03' Cobra and a 94' Cobra, plus an employee has a 04' Cobra, another employee has a 94' GT and another has a 00' GT. They all have the stock fiberglass hoods on them. The re-reinforcement may be steel (hood catch, hinge area) but the rest of the hood is fiberglass. And so is the rear deck lid! At least now you do have to worry about buying a glass' hood!

Re: weight reduction?

Banging on both sounded like steel to me, but the reinforcements are fiberglass. I'm going to have to check this one out...

Re: weight reduction?

moving the battery to the back is a good way to help out with the weight that's there.

Removing all sorts of stuff helps. it's up to your imagination and how quiet and comfortable you need the car to be.

smaller brakes
Radio and speakers deleted
spare tire and jack gone
seats changed or removed
carpet and sound deadener stripped out

Then changing iron stuff for aluminum stuff.

then metal for plastic or carbon fiber

then plastic and metal for nothing...

take out the dash and all the plastic. door trim, headliner, etc.
Turn the frame into a cheese grater. Drill or punch holes in the radiator mounts, trunk supports and such. Remove the hood hinges and latch, and go to hood pins.

It's possible to strip a fox body down to 1800 pounds or so without going too crazy...

well maybe a little crazy.
