Speed Density or MAF 1988 GT

My neighbor has a new toy. It's a 88 GT. He says it is Speed Denisity (Federal EMissions, not Cali) and I thought they went to MAF in 88 and the last SD was in 87. What's the best way to tell the difference? Thanks!

Re: Speed Density or MAF 1988 GT

Only original California cars had Mass air in '88, all "49-states" cars still had Speed density.

Easiest way is to look at the intake hose/tubing. Near the intake opening there is a MAF which has a black square (about 1.5 x 1.5 inches about a 1/4 in. thick) ... its the "hot wire" sensor. If it ain't there - then its a SD.

X2. Should be a speed density car. Unless someone converted it.

Re: Speed Density or MAF 1988 GT

what all do we need to convert it? It is a 5spd car.
We do have a A9P ECU we got from a friend.
So we need the MAF, wiring and what else?
