I had huge problems with my 2003 Cobra not shifting into 2nd or 3rd at 6000rpm or higher. I was starting to get mad but I had a 1997 cobra do the same thing. I replaced the quadrant in the 1997 cobra. For the 03 I got the micro click adjuster and aluminum quadrant.
It took a couple hours to install because of the confined space under the dash, and the blood rushing to my head necessitating a few breaks here and there. I started by removing the stock cable from the plastic quadrant. I unscrewed the cable from the firewall in the engine bay, by removing two screws. I pulled the plastic connector off of the end after I removed a metal band that holds it on with needle nose pliers. Then the rubber grommet comes off. I removed the clips on the quadrant under the dash which allowed me to remove the two plastic gear parts of the quadrant. Its a real pain in the butt to remove them, and the smaller gear has part of the spring go into the gear. The adjuster can take up to 4 screws but the engine block will prevent you from putting all 4 in. I was able to drill the three holes and screw in the base. If you have a 4v engine you will have to install the middle screw part with the base then tighten the screws. After the quadrant is back on, and the cotter pins are replaced, the cable can be run through the firewall and the adjuster. It easily attaches to the quadrant as there is no pressure on the cable. Then in the engine bay, you pull on the cable and turn the adjuster until it puts pressure on the cable house. There should be a small gap between the adjuster and plastic case on the cable. The clutch pedal should have some play left in it.
I wish I had pictures of the install, but I wasn't able to, as it was mostly dark when I did this and I just had a drop light. Here is what the parts look like before the install.
Now my tranny shifts easier than ever, and it will keep my clutch cable adjusted, and keep my clutch alive a lot longer.
