Re: just bought a 1996 mustang

96 stangs are still the same as Fox bodies in many ways, including suspension. However, if you convert to a 302, I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes illegal due to emissions in some places. However, the only place that I'd see problems w/ is the fact you may need a 94-95 GT K-member or aftermarket piece. Other than that, you shouldn't have too much of a problem doing the swap, especially since you're going carb.

Re: just bought a 1996 mustang

Kmember should be fine, and any of the fox 5.0 parts should be a direct bolt in. Like others said this pretty much a fox body car with a different shell. There are some minor differences in the uni-body but none that would stop you from doing a transplant to the V8. Glad to hear you bought a Mustang and hope you enjoy and the kids too! Just my two cents!

PS If you're going to do a V8 swap. why not just go with a 351W. I think you'll be 10 times happier and its nearly the same cost, and parts are almost all the same.

Ya! I Would Do A 351w But I Have A Ton Of 302 Rollor Blocks And Parts.. And The Car Has A 7.5 Rearend Eith Disc Brakes, Can I Use The Older 8.8 That I Have And Use The Disc Brake Set Up Off The 7.5?

Re: just bought a 1996 mustang

You can use the 8.8 since it wasn't changed until 99 (and it was only lengthened). As far as swapping the disk-brakes over from the 7.5", that I can't answer. If I where you, I'd get the Cobra rear bracket set-up and rotors and attach the calipers w/ that (Cobra/GT/V6 used all the same rear calipers, just Cobras used a thinner brake pad) since you're taking it apart anyway. Also, throw on some Cobra front brakes when you get a chance since for $400, why not.

Not positive but I do know axles where the same so I would say the disc brakes would bolt right on. Try it and post it in tech exchange with pics and share the info!
