Bolt ons

Aftermarket heads as of now are ported heads. Good places to go to are Steen Racing, VT Engines, Total Engine Airflow, and Fox Lake Racing.

Only hooker headers i can find is the super comp. Are these ok to put on or do i need to stay street strip for just a few simple bolt ons for gas and the occasional red light to red light.

The Hookers are what I have. My only problem is that since it's uses a two piece driver header, it leaks slightly on acceleration so I think the best way to solve that problem is when you slide the front two tubes into the collector, put some high temp RTV on to seal it for good. In fact, my mileage both city and highway improved w/ these. Just remember, if you are going to install them yourself, give yourself plenty of time and either take the k-member off or the engine out of the car to install them.

Went from 230 miles per tank(stock) to 270 miles per tank (mods) mixed freeway/city

tried to install some bbk shorty headers. didnt pull the engine. didnt pull the k member. now i just rented a lift on base for two days at 35 dollars a day and every tool i could think of and couldnt get it done in time(monday). the driver side motor mount bolt dosent thread anymore couse the pipes are in the way. i cant unbolt the header to thread the bolt couse the motor mount is in the way so i need to bend the tube. this will be its third time off in order to get something else to fit properly. driver side gasket is all chewed up from me pushing and pulling the header. i didnt tighten down the bottom header bolts before my buddy put the starter on and motormount to the passengerside. cant figure out why the engine shifts to the right every time i jack it up. maybe its right handed. beats me. now during clean up i noticed that i cant find all the bolts and picked up some extra that i dont know where they go plus the jiggly thing that im not sure is a car part but it turned into a mascot for us and i just spent 70 even for a tow couse the base skills center will be closed for the next two days so the wife is making me. no wait, letting me put it in the exhaust shop to do the rest. thats gonna cost 380 there just went my budget and i keep dwelling on how that car beat me

This is why shorties aren't worth the hassle and this is why I learned when I left the engine in the car and tried putting long tubes in. Spent my entire spring break just to get as far as getting the passenger side in and then going down a slippery slope of letting a shop finish the install and then having another guy install cats. You live and learn from your mistakes.

I'm about to install a new Tb and Plenum myself, while reading this post and some discussion on air flow I was wondering if anyone knew the purpose of the mesh screen between the filter box in front of the MAF. I suspected it was for debris and thought it restrictive, but now find myself questioning about straightening turbulance in the intake system.

i took mine out. When i got my trickflow plenum i noticed the inside was not smooth like some of the other ported ones. So i called several machine shops. All of them suggested not to have it smoothed out becouse the roughness will increase turbulance and will increase torque on the bottom end.

That mesh is there to straighten the airflow so that the meter reads correctly. I'd suggest you leave it on.
