Bolt ons
Going to start putting some $$$ into the usual Bolt ons (Plenum, Throttle body, programmer, exhaust, ect, ect.) I wanted some feed back of other Brand name vs. brand name, applications, combinations of bolt ons and of course rwhp. I mean thats what its all about.

Re: Bolt ons
Until you remove the retriction (the heads), bolt ons aren't as good as the ones on the 5.0. However, good stuff to look at:
Throttle Bodies-stick w/ 70mm since the 75mm screws w/ the AF ratio and won't be better than a 70mm. For a cheap one, go w/ the Explorer piece since you can get that I think for $90 at the parts counter (though I'm not 100% sure it's 70mm but that's the word on the vine).
Plenum- Trickflow, Accufab, and C&L.
Programmers- Diablo or SCT.
Exhaust- Cat-backs and mid-pipes won't net you anything worth it unless you get some headers, in which long tubes are the only ones worth the trouble. For headers, MAC, Hooker, Flowtech, Hedman, and BBK all makes LT (I went w/ Hookers) but I hear good and bad for all of them so it's up to you.
Shifters- Steeda, Hurst, Pro 5.0, B&M, and MGW are all good and basically the same so get one that fits you (style wise and knob placement).
CAI- Useless. Just remove the silencer and slap a better air filter on.
Gears- 4.11 are popular and brands to look at are Richmond, FRPP, and Motive.
Intake manifolds- hiperformancesolutions.com has a nice piece that fits w/o mods and Trick Flow has their piece too (useless unless you got ported heads).
For numbers, expect around 10hp for plenum and throtle body together, 20 hp for long tubes, and the usual for underdrive pullies (Steeda is the best). Also, consider beefing up the suspension (lower control arms and subframe connectors to start).

Re: Bolt ons
What year explorer do i need for the 70mm? The 75mm messing with the air/fuel ratio, is this becouse of fuel injector size??
Also does adding headers without serious mods make the car loose on the low end do to the increase scavenging?

Re: Bolt ons
i think the 2v mod motors like long tube headers, i've heard alot of good things about them and the associated h pipe. not sure about the shorty's. i think you might loose a bit of low end torque though. biggest thing is the price for them and difficulty installing them. even worse with 4v

Re: Bolt ons
The problem w/ the 75 is it's difficult to tune since as it opens, it drastically leans out the A/F since the rate of air coming in is much larger than stock. As for Explorers, not sure what year, but I'll assume it's the ones w/ the 2V engine. Headers, attempt this only w/ the k-member off the car or the engine out of the car. Otherwise, you'll end up pissed and giving up like me. But the low-end doesn't suffer to badly but the power comes in strong once you hit 2-3,000 rpm and you'll get better mileage too, city and highway. Shortys don't add much (10hp tops) and for the trouble, might as well spend the cash for long tubes.

Re: Bolt ons
ok technically i think it is but man$$$$$$. I started looking at intakes and found the hardball'r, trickflow, typhoon and p51. They all suck from the #'s posted of 1 hp gain and like maybe 20 ft-lbs for the low price of 600-800. Typhoon sells an entire kit (T/B Plenum and intake) for the least dough of about 650. ive heard of some people spending just that for the plenum and T/B combo. I think i will go with this unless you guys have heard otherwise and have seen some good dyno charts.

Re: Bolt ons
Stay away from the Typhoon. Unless you spend lots of time into it cleaning it up, you will probably loose power w/ that intake (not only that, there's been cases of bad castings causing coolant leaks). Also, a Trick Flow plenum and a FRPP throtle body together costs under $400 (plenum is $100 and throttle body is around $200). Like I said, intake manifolds are useless until you remove the restriction by porting the heads. And though you won't see geat gains on top, the intake manifold will get you 20hp in the mid range.
