Engine swap; 4.6 to 5.4

Does anyone have any experience and or knowledge reference the engine swap procedures for a 2002 GT 5 speed with the 4.6L engine to a 5.4L engine.

My Gt has 58,000 miles, runs well and has minor modifications that include a Diablo program and a MAC Cold Air Induction system; all of which work quite well.

Thanks for your input.

Here's the bible: Anyone intrested in 5.4L swaps, in here. Need you to opine. - Mustang Forums
It pretty much straight forward and the only parts that need modifying are the mid-pipe (lengthening/widening) and adaptor plates for the intake (though soon, HPS will have a specfic 5.4 intake).

[quote=76grantorino;1366557]Thanks i almost had all the mods picked out for my stang until i saw this thread. What is the weight diff and the horsepower diff of the two engines. And of course is the MPG diff. Can the trans hold the power of a 5.4 slightly modified or maybe the Lightning2V.

Re: Engine swap; 4.6 to 5.4

The weight diff is around 30 lbs, which is offset by any aftermarket k-member. Staying 2V, horsepower will be similar (obviuously 5.4 will have more but not too much more) but the torque is sickening. Mileage wise, I'm assuming city is a tad worse but from what I hear, highway is similar. As far as the trans, the stock T45/TR3650 will hold up fine, if you drive like a granny. As for the Lightning engine, don't expect the blower to fit under the hood but if you use the shortblock, beef it up w/ forged internals. Check out the link I posted since any question you will ever have is probably answer there.

I'm doing the swap and have used that website alot for the swap. Its been a great help! I just decided to make it more difficult and keep the turbo.
