Odometer not working

I took my stock Mystic Cobra to the shop for a tune up. Ended up replacing fuel injecter and replacing wires. As far as I know the odometer and trip meter were both working before going to shop. When I got the car back the speedometer works fine, but no movement on trip meter or odometer. Are these controlled electronicly? Could this just be a coinsidence. The guy that did the work is very repatable. Any advise is appreciated. Thanks larry

Re: Odometer not working

Sounds like your speedo just died. They are inter connected.

Re: Odometer not working

What I don't understand is that the speedometer works fine. The odometer is on the speedometer side while the trip meter is on the tach side of the cluster. Are they mechanically connected behind the speedometer head?

Re: Odometer not working

Not sure what years started w/ the electronic units but if the odometer has a digital display, its electronic. Over time, they go so it may have just been a coincidence that it went only now. However, your speedo may work but is it still accurate? Could be a problem ranging from the speed sensor to the circuit board.

Re: Odometer not working

Speedometer feels like it is right. The odo and trip meters are not digital displays?

Re: Odometer not working

Then you have the old mechanical speedo/odometer. Could be the gears used for the odometer may have broke (since it's all plastic in there).

Re: Odometer not working

Thanks everybody. I found a factory service bulliten for 96 mustangs. The odometer gears where prone to breakage. Especially if car has periods of non use.
