Piston slap noises on modular engines

My 5.4 2006 F 150 engine has had a piston slap noise since it left the showroom. Also my 4.6 2007 Mustang GT/CS has the same noise. The dealer says it is normal for modular engines to have this noise at idle. It may be normal but I don't like it.Any and all comments would be appreciated.

This is news to me. Are you sure it's piston slap? And not the injectors?

GM's truck engines are most common for piston slap.

I'm not sure it's piston slap but it has that unique sound of a piston slap.Outside of the vehicle it can hardly be heard.Inside it sounds very loud. I guess if I were running flowmasters I wouldn't notice it.

I doubt it's slap since if it was, it would go away when warm. Also, piston slap is NOT normal for the Mod engines due to the tight clearances. However, for the 5.4/6.8, when they accumulate 100+ k miles, people say those engine experience it but my dad's F150 w/ the 5.4 and 210,000 miles has no evidence of it, even in winter.

have read about the cam phase adjusters causing a racket- think a TSB might be out there on it...been lucky here so far- only noise I have is a once per tire revolution rubbing sound from the rearend gears...hasnt changed in 13,000 miles, so guess nothing too horribly bad...the a/c clutch on most of these click awfully loud- cheep clutch/too much gap or something...sounds like a starter solenoid clicking in...

have you ever had a more 'fun to drive' car? I love this thing

I'll have to admit on a rating of 'fun to drive' the new Mustang is getting pretty close to sex.
