check under front lip of your hood...

I had noticed a tiny spot in mine last year- thought it was a small sag in the factory paint- nope...I did a little off road excursion tonight looking over the damage - the underside of the hood has blistered/bubbling paintlike you'd see on a ten year old car, not a 2 year old car that was never in the snow...looks to me like that underside crimp is not sealed, and water gets to the aluminum and corrodes the crap out of it...I'll nee to paint the hood from scratches I put on it tonight, but think I'm gonna look into a 'glass hood as this aluminum problem is sure to return on a repaint if it already exists in the factory baked paint...gotta replace the bumper/fender, repaint the hood...did a stupid move going around a corner in the middle of nowhere, jumped on the gas a little too hard going into second and the road was too slick- lifted instead of pressing the clutch and rear skidded - basically just bumped a rusty old chain link fence at at about 10-15 mph...figures, just paid it off too...glad just cosmetic damage, but hope its another 25 years before I bend up anything else...

Actually, that bubbling is a result of poor prep when they paint the hoods at ford.

Since aluminum doesn't "rust" like steel does, it's still oxidization (sp?) of the aluminum under the paint.

The worst part is that since the aluminum doesn't rust like steel, it'll never eat through the panel or the paint. That means Ford won't cover it under the corrosion warranty for more than the original 3/36.

I just took my 05 Saleen that's out of warranty since April in for it.

Even with less than 30k on the odometer at the time, Ford still told me to pound sand.

Instead of fighting them, I just went out and bought a new hood.

Re: check under front lip of your hood...

All hoods have poor metal sealing at the hooks and bends, especially when they're not dipped....

Re: check under front lip of your hood...

every mustang more than a few months old I've seen had this starting to varying degrees...a couple guys insisted the roughh edge was just seam sealer till a couple months later as it started appearing elsewhere and spreading. I bought a fang hood/shaker months ago, but 'life happened' again, and havent had time to screw with it...so still driving with about a 50cent piece sized silver spot on the hood(the blistered part blew off)

Re: check under front lip of your hood...

I have an 05' also.....mine is doing the same thing. Sanded it down last fall, fearing that the winter will make it worse if left unattended. Used etching primer on the bad spots. Planning to repaint this spring.
