Exclamation Re: TCI StreetFighter 05-08 Mustang Ratchet Shifter

Hey guys I have a 2005 Moch Roush ST3 BlackJack and a question about upgrading my stock shifter to a TCI Ratchet shifter. First of all does someone know where I may be able to pick up a used or slightly damaged shifter or, a new one for cheap cheap cheap. Also, will my stock, converter hold the torque that I will press with this new shifter or should I beef up the converter too? Thanks
!! Also does anyone have a freeware version of vSEo 3.2.0 that I could use to get a pic of my car online for you guys?

Thank You,
BK

As another poster so tactfully put it, a shifter will not increase torq or strain or wear on your stock converter. But if you want to manually shift your 5R55S transmission without worrying about a mis-shift either up or down then you would be well served by a Ratchet Shifter for your car.

As of right now TCI has the only production ratchet shifter available for your car. B&M has said they are bringing one out soon but I haven't seen a production model as of yet.

I installed a TCI Stretfighter ratchet shifter in my car a couple of months ago and it works as advertised and is a high quality unit. It is a pretty easy install and only takes an hour or so to do.

Casey,

When you take it into first gear from park or neutral, do you have to ratchet down 3 (or more) times? Or can you go straight into first like the stock shifter?

Also, where exactly is the O/D button!? The TCI site says it's moved to the base?

Thanks!

To get from DRIVE to first, you ratchet to 3, then 2, then first gear, you cannot go directly to any lower gear without rathceting through the others first, that's whay it is a ratchet shifter. You only use the toggle to get out of PARK to N, R, or into D. To ratchet into or out of any of the forwrd gears the toggle isn't used. It does not shift like a manual where you can go from any gear to any other gear.

The OD button is a tactile button on the selector panel just above the PARK position. If you look at the photo from the drivers side you'll see the white button on the selector panel. I would like the OD better on the handle like the stock shifter, but you have to give a little to get everything else.

Re: TCI StreetFighter 05-08 Mustang Ratchet Shifter

Thanks for clarifying how it works, this is very helpful!

I have a B&M ratchet shifter (star shifter i think) in my truck and it will go from D to 1 to engage ratchet mode, then ratchet up to D.

I was hoping that you would have the option to not have to ratchet down to 1, especially when coming out of R or N...

I love ratchet shifters.
Had A Quicksilver in my ol 64 1/2 and it was great.
All the fun of controlling the shifts without the clutch work.
When you get my age the ol knees just dont wanna do what ya want them too.
