Question GT 500 driveshaft

Why did Ford use a 2-piece driveshaft on the GT 500? It seems odd.

Re: GT 500 driveshaft

They used it on all 05+ cars. It probably provides for a smoother ride (since Ford is obsessed w/ making muscle cars ride like Lincolns) but it may be because of no slip yoke on the trans output.

Well....I was thinking of buying a '10 GT 500 and drag racing it a little bit. However, I'm not sure how a 2-piece driveshaft would hold up to that. I guess I can get a HP aftermarket single shaft to replace the 2-piece unit.

And the choices only get better everyday for single piece units.

Now that I think of it, how heavy duty are the axles? Are they 31 spline or still 28 spline?

You'd think with charging 50K on something like that that they would put all the 'good stuff' in it, but it looks like they don't-----to save costs, probably.

Yes, the axles are 31 spline. However, the 2 piece isn't cheap, if anything, it adds cost but like I said, Ford most likely did it for better comfort, since Ford has been screwing muscle cars over w/ this thinking since the Boss 429.

Well, I have an 8 second Probe that I race regularly. I just thought I'd buy a '10 GT 500 and have a little fun with it. Maybe take it to 3 or 4 'special' events thru the year. Probably no more than 30 or 40 passes (with slicks) in a season. I was hoping it would be tough enough to handle that.
