How exactly does that slip on piece work?

it was a temp fix to allow me to use my kickdown my threaded rod is 1/4 od I removed my heim joint and slide the stop with a set screw over the rod found my correct position and tightend screw.

just moving to the top, anybody interested? I have another 2 dozen.
