68 ranchero rust

I am looking at buying a 68 ranchero. The body is in fine shape but the bed has rust up in the front (bottom and back of cab). Is this a common and correctible problem for this body style or is this more likely an omen of things to come??

Re: 68 ranchero rust

Ranchero rust under the rear window and the front of the bed is common and the replacement parts 'should' be available, but I haven't checked...
Poor isolation from the weather, parking pointed down hill, and bad weatherstripping and windoe sealing causes this age old destruction...

Hey Ed,
Yup, this is a common are of rust on all Ranchero's, and repair panels are not available for yours. Check the floor pans, too. The area behind the seat, where the spare tire goes, is where the water ends up from the bed. Generally, the damage starts from the drains being clogged; the standing water brings the rust. The floor pans, rockers, and quarters are available from Dearborn Classics. The bed patching should be done by someone with good fabbing and welding skills. It's worth fixing!
Good luck. JD
