Re: 69 ranchero

So this guy doesnt want to even try to hook up the headers and connect the shift cable so that i can take a test drive. Apparently its an easy fix, but im sure something is wrong with the drivetrain. Im gonna give him an initial offering of $1800.

Re: 69 ranchero

After fully reading your post and looking at the car... You'd be hard pressed to find another one that someone will pay more than $1,200 bucks for...
They're just not that popular...
Plus he don't want to let you test drive it?
That's FISHY.

Offer an Honest $1,200. WHat do you car that he say's the engine is rebuilt 50 K miles ago......
Remind the dude that back in the 60's 99% of all motors were WORN OUT at 85 to 90K miles and 50K on a rebuild is no reason to pay top dollar.
It' already lived through HALF it's usefullness as an engine.

There's no proof that it's the 351 Windosr... Maybe it's a cheapo 302 someone put in it...

Not running and not able to test drive and a $3,500 dollar price tag I am positive he got too deep into it .

I'll bet he want's out of the car thinking that CHROME and the word 50K on rebuild and a Maco $500 paint job will mean $$...

Re: 69 ranchero

I don't remember.... There likely isn'a a way without a tape to measure with...

Block casting #'s for sure. Original engine ID tag...

If he can't or will not prove to you that the engine runs than you are best to assume it does not and base your offer accordingly.

Re: 69 ranchero

on the front of the engine.
look where the water pump bolts through the timing cover to the block.
on a 351 th timing cover water pump will be about 3/4-1" below the head.
on a 302 the bolt will go in right below the head.
that looks like a good car to get i see from the pics it looks like it has power disc brakes and power steering.
if it is a 351 id bet it also has a 9"rearend as well.
good luck hope you get it.
