69 ranchero

hey guys, so i've been wanting a ranchero ever since i found out that ford made an equivalent to the el camino. Anyways, I finally found one that is a good candidate. its a 69 ranchero gt. Is this a pretty desireable model as far as rancheros go? What are some things that i should look out for? I saw the car, and the body seems straight. There is absolutely no rust on the floor pans, the car has been repainted, but that could be a cover up for body damage. But it does look straight. The only thing is that the doors dont close right. It could be that the hinges are shot, but how can i tell its nothing too serious? Since there is no rust on the floor, is it safe to assume that the rest of the body is rust free. I live in chicago, but the car has always been garaged, and is originally from colorado.

Also, how hard are parts to get a hold of. Are repro parts easy to find. I have 2 77 mustangs and parts are non existant, so im trying to avoid a similar situation. What are some things i should look out for?

this is supposedly a gt model, but ill check when i get a vin #. Supposedly the car has a 351w with 50xxx mi on it since a rebuild, but it doesnt run because the headers and shift cable are disconnected. in not sure im ready to spend $3500 without test driving it, much less hearing the engine run. What do you guys think? I really want to be a ranchero owner, but i dont want to get screwed. Thanks. -Rudy.

Re: 69 ranchero

For $3,500 it should be running no matter how small of an issue it is. Rancheros in general sell for much less than many other cars of the same vintage. For $3,500 you should be getting a a good quality daily driver with no rust or other body issues in the 68-69 model. Most Rancheros sell for between $500-$5,000 the ones that sell for more than that are either very rare models or very well done rebuilds. Ford Ranchero, Ford Falcon, Ford Fairlane, Ford Torino, Mercury Comet, and Mercury Montego Parts Online caries many reproduction Ranchero parts and there plenty of old parts out there as well being that the Rancheros were always built off of car body style of the same model years as the Ranchero. 68-69 Ranchero would share parts with the 68-69 Torino/Fairlane and some parts with the 70-71 Ranchero.
Also the Ranchero came first in 1957, GM copied the the Ranchero starting in 1959.

Re: 69 ranchero

if the engine and trans are in bad shape, but the body is really good, then what would be a good price? Thanks for the help.

Just for correction. Chevy made the equivalent to the Ranchero. The Ranchero was introduced in 1957. Chevrolet didn't jump on the bandwagon until 1959. Just wanted to make sure everyone knew who the copy cat was.
