Most radical street rod engine......

Well, I'm not a rodder, but I sure know what a neat engine looks like.
Thought I'd try to get this forum off to a start.
So.....here is what I think might be the most ultimate engine to show off in a rod. His name is Rod Hadfield, and he's from the land of Oz. I believe he took it to the US a few years back, and had many generous offers.

Yeah, he is known to drive his projects.
He also took his P51 Mustang powered '55 Chev, and his sidevalve Lincoln V10 ratrod with him to the US aswell. The Chev was sold off to some guy. I believe he is pretty good mates with Jay Leno, who also has a few Aeroplane powered cars.

Re: Most radical street rod engine......

idk, i just don't get it. Why would you twin roots blower it? Twin turbo would be lighter, more powerful, and realisitically probably more feasible. Just seems like a big waste of money to me *shrug*.

It's to do with visual impact, and he's certainly got it.
Remember Rick Doberton and his J2000?
He had a blower, fed by 2 turbos, each fed by a Holley with nitrous for each. Maybe it didn't run too well, but it sure did look good!

What's so totally amazing about the Dobertin car is how quickly it faded into obscurity. That car was an awesom piece of mechanical mayhem

Re: Most radical street rod engine......

Dan & Lee, Great posts. Rick's Pontiac showed up in Car Craft a few months ago. Just farging awsome. I sorta/kinda know Rick. He used to own a shop called "Turbo Dynamics" in Springfield, Va., a couple of towns over from me. I bought a Hurst Comp plus shifter from him for that farging POS Corvette I used to own. As I remember, he had several old BMW's and Chevy Monzas, all decked out in IMSA trim, in the shop...Bad as hell.

There was a writeup on him in an old Motor Trend or Road and Track where he was trying to circumvent the globe in some kind of rig that was made up of a stainless steel amphib-o-mobile, made out of a milk tanker. Great craftsman/artist

Rick

Re: Most radical street rod engine......

Back in 1988, Rick Doberton brought his J2000 downunder to the Street Machine Summernats.
I remember how pleased he was, that he could drive it down the main road from the show grounds to the town center, and then back again, in the Supercruize. On the main hwy, that is.
I also remember when I saw him taking photos of some Camaros and Firebirds. I asked him "Don't you have enough of these back home?"
His reply was "yeah, but none in right hand drive."
He thought it was odd to see them with the steering wheel on the wrong side.

Re: Most radical street rod engine......

Although you might not classify this as a street rod,and the engine is definitely not a Ford, you do have to admit this could be considered "blessed excess"
