347 OR 331

Hi
I live in the Uk own a 67 Mustang 302 5spd Tremec 3.55 locker. I have done some work to the engine Edelbrock RPM heads Torker II manifold 650 Dp holley Comp Cams 274 extreme energy cam eagle h beam rods comp cams roller rockers 1.6:1. I am looking at stroker kits for the 302 I don't want no hassle changing the motor. Besides corners brilliant. Whats best 331 or 347. I do mostly road driving with a few track days and some 1/4 mile run what you brung. I'd like a 347 but I here all the negative things.
Many Thanks Al

I run a 326 stroker that runs well, i would suggest the 331 over the 347 because of the pin being in the ring pack and the 331 has a better rod to stroke ratio.

William,

I'd go with the 347cid hands down. For the money your spending it's foolish IMO not to.
With all the 347's running around now its unreal that people still bring up the oil comsumption argument. No disrespect mrtbolt.
Contact Probe Industries here for the latest info on 347 kits. www.347streetfighter.com" TARGET="_blank"> www.347streetfighter.com</A>
Eagle also makes a killer 347 kit that come with JE pistons. I myself bought a 408kit from bbandtracing.com they have some of the absolute best prices and service on these.

That’s the sort of advice I like. I was thinking bigger is better. I'm very tempted to go for an Eagle kit I have Eagle rods in the motor and to be honest it was a shame to put them in, there beautiful and amazing quality. Oil consumption doesn't bother me unless it's excessive but what about piston wobble and the effect of rod angles on life span. Reading most the things on Fordmuscle I think we're about 18 months behind in the U.K. Thanks for replies

The cars all set up with 302. I don't want the expense of swapping to a 351. I just want to buy stroker kit and roller cam set up.

347 clearly the way to go. I built mine with Coast High Performance kit, and do NOT suffer oil consumption problems. I drive the car across state every June to Cool Desert Nights (Richland WA)450 miles round trip and don't even use a quarter of a quart of oil. I also got 15 miles to the gallon, not that I cared about mileage. That is not bad for over 400 horses. GO WITH THE 347! You will love the torque.

No replacement for displacement. I recommend the CHP 347-e. Besides resolving the oil ring issue they have also designed they're pistons with offset wrist pins as well as valve reliefs for different style heads. As noted in another post, there are a lot of reliable 347's roaming the streets these days.

Good luck,
