383 or 393

I havent bought my kit yet, CHP has a 949.00 393 w/forged pistons and total seal rings that I'm almost sold on, speedomotive has a 383 with a better than chevy rod to stroke ratio with a forged crank for 1325.00 and hyper pistons. Powerhouse has a 408 stroker kit w/ coated KB hyper pistons for 699.00 with I beam rods.....my choice would be the 393 because of use of stock parts, what do you all think? what will make the most power per $$$$ 383,393 or in my case 396 or the 408, mild hyd roller,T/W heads,9-10:01 comp,125 shot....does size matter? rod to stroke? stock 302 pistons and stock 351 rods(393) I'm still partial to the 393 w/ forged pistons at 949.00 although the 408 sounds too good for the price......HELP!

My set up is really similar to the chp, I have some other goodies, not listed. The bottom end is just parts swinging. It makes nothing with out a set of lungs. Heads are what make and break the engine building process. I spent money here..AFR, they were new then, I bought the biggest they had, which were 185cc, they make tremndous torque and good horsepower.
Using good quality componets make the most sense if you use stock parts use late model truck rods, with arp bolts. If the rod have been remaned make sure the c to c is correct and that they are all the same. also make sure the rods measure c to c on both sides the same.
Running cast pistons makes sense for most folks what rpm limits will you have if your running under 6500 cast pistons are ok. Stock rod are ok as long as you keep the compression ratio, down under 12.5:1 any high and you have a time bomb. As for cams I like mine a little to big for most, something in the high 230-240 range,@.50 hyd for a street motor, with a lift over 520 will give you tremendous power, tons of torque and years of fun. Make sure you buy good bearings and gaskets, and a high volume oil pump. Use a good quality shop, one that has a good reputation, and one that will show you everything you will need to do. You will need to have skills with a die grinder, or at least have the machine shop do the work.
Strokers require assembly and disassembly sometimes several times, so buy a extra set of cheap rod bearings, and rings,. The block will need to be cleaned after you fitting or mock stage.
Sorry to much info, I got carried away.I would buy a CHP or Power Kit...

I agree with Mac on the CHP stroker kit. They have a reputation for quality and power experience! Bigger is not always better. Their combination with the right pair of heads will be very impressive
