More 351 Stroker Questions

Hello all - I plan on building a 351 stroker motor for my 66 ranchero & need to do it on a budget so my wife doesn't disown me. $3000-7000 crate motors are out. Can anyone tell me what stock parts can be used to build a stroked 351? for example, can I have a stock 351 crank cut down to increase stroke? What's the max displacement w/ a stock 351 crank? Also, I keep hearing about 400M cranks. Are these the 'turd' motor follow ons to the cleveland? Can a stock 400M crank be used to stroke a windsor motor? can it be cut to further increase the displacement. More questions to follow...I have a thousand of them but don't want to scare anyone off.

http://www.bacomatic.org/~dw/index.htm I got some good info there. But I figured it would be cheaper to buy a stroker kit.

You can buy a 393W stroker crank for around $500, use stock 351W rods and either 302 or KB 393 stroker pistons.

You can't get more of a budget engine than a 392. $350 for the 3.85 stroke Scat crank, stock 351W rods, and cheap dime a dozen 302 pistons. the KB Hypereutectic pistons are very good for this combo. Strong and cheap and the pin bosses clear the counterweights on the crank without clearancing. Basically during a rebuild you get new pistons anyway and resize the rods so the only added cost to go from a 351W to a 392 stroker is the $350 crank itself.

89 Coupe - Thanks for the response. According to your 'signature' you own my dream car. A Pinto s/w with a stroked 351. Would love to hear about it & see some pics.

http://www.speedomotive.com/NEW%20CRANKS.HTM

Has 351W w/ 3.850 STROKE 2PC` CK351WA $264.00

Summit has Keith Black pistons KB364 for $187.95

With your block decked and a .041 gasket and some D00E heads(60.4cc) it would be close to 10.1 to 1 compression.

I'm with drag stang! Hell, all the Stroker kits are about the same price...Think big! 427 Stroker! Most of the cars these motors are put in are "Weekend Warriors", The motor will last along time.
