390FE with 428 crank?

I've heard this is doable. I believe you end up with about a 410. Any one done it or know things to look out for? Parts suppliers (pistons)?

390FE with 428 crank?

I've had this set-up, it is a 428 crank in a 390 block, making a 410. This is similar to the 406 in the lincoln, I guess. The 410 actually came factory in 65-66? mercury station wagons. The rated HP # were in the vicinity of 330 HP and 440??? lb ft of torque. Ran this set-up in a galaxy for a while, GOBS of torque. Parts are readily available since it is an FE and it uses either 428 or 390 parts!!! have fun.

390FE with 428 crank?

I heard that it requires after market pistons because 428's are too big for the bore & 390's are too tall. 406's would work, but they are cast right? I will need forged. This is a long term project so I'm just doing research now.

I intend to use a "200 horse" shot of laughing gas on occaision. Any thoughts on making it live?

Thanks for the reply!

Not sure if they are still available or not, but Ford Power Parts (FPP) in Buena Park, Ca. offered genuine TRW forged pistons for the 410 application. They also offered forged 406FE pistons as well because virtually no one makes anything for the 406 bore size anymore.
