427 Stroker
Rick, that sounds like way too much carburator for a small block. I've never heard of a dual quad carb intake that would fit Windsor heads. Sounds interesting, but I'd be careful about hitting it with too much.

427 Stroker
Tony,
I've got windsor heads on my 302 now. I have to have spacer plates between My intake and heads when I use it on the 351W not to adapt, but to reach. I've got my mixture screws all the way in and then out 3/4 of a turn on my 302. I'm sure it will run leaner on the 427, but I have NO black smoke out the exhaust when I nail it, That's a good thing. Oh brother, now I sound like Martha Stuart! These Edelbrock Carbs are really user Friendly. I was asked once before, "What's in the motor that you need dual quads?" I've got a 306 with 11:1 compression,VERY lopey, can't remember Lift/Duration. I say to that question..."Do you need an intake like this?..NO, Do you want an intake like this? OH YES." A Victor Jr. and a 750 is probably the perfect set-up, but it doesn't have the WOW factor like a HI-Rise Tunnel Ram with 2 carbs sitting up through the hood!! LOL! Ya know? Oh, and my oil smells like oil , not gas. So it can't be running that rich right?

Rick - you're a certified motor nut, buddy! Be sure you allocate funds for a helmet and a fire suit!
OK - so I want my own 427.

427 Stroker
Chris,
I don't need a helmet or firesuit. Because if I crash my truck, I would not want to live to look at it! LOL! Not unless Grundy will still cover my truck for a drag strip accident.Do they? Probably not. I won't have my stroker for Kansas this year, but I'll be close to paying it off!!! Wait until you see what Ron Thomas (GreenFalcon Blower)is doing with his car and ranchero.

427 Stroker
Hey Rick, here are a few suggestions when building your 427-stroker engine. I have built this engine and decided to stray away from the packaged kits out there so I crunched numbers until I could squeeze the best combination of numbers to achieve an affordable but dependable 427 stroker. You can start off with a late model 351W roller truck block. These are relatively easy to find and will work just fine for a street warrior visiting the strip without worry. This combination will produce it's peak horsepower and torque below 6500 rpm so I recommend a rev limiter just for self-preservation sake. Here’s what you need to start with.
1. Late model Ford roller cam truck block.
2. Forged steel 4.170" Stoker crank (Hawks Racing)
3. Main girdle, use the tool steel one designed by Canton for a stroker engine. This one has the reliefs machined in it already and with ARP main bolts, it will tighten up your bottom end considerably.
4. 6.250" H Beam rods with SBC rod journals. This will decrease the radius of the rod journal so it doesn't hit the cam.
5. Mahle Motorsports makes a piston #SBF165030I16 that has a compression height of 1.165", this allows you to use the longer 6.250" rod.
The biggest advantage you get is the rod ratio of 1.55:1. Anytime you can get a better rod ratio, take it. Falling bellow 1.5:1 tends to make an engine turn into time bombs if you know what I mean! Now that a better rod ratio has been attained, you will need to get the compression ratio down so you can have lots of that fun torque on pump gas. Brodix built me a set of heads with 75cc chambers with 211 cc intake ports, 2.08" intake valve and 1.60" exhaust valves. Using these heads, you will lower your compression ratio down to just over 9.5:1. Depending on the cam and fuel management you use, expect to obtain between 400-500hp and closer to 500lbs of torque.
I hope this gives you some food for thought. If anybody else has built a 427 stroker to these specs, let me know how yours performed.

I got my block and heads back from being burned! Before taking them to get powdercoated, I had to set it all together for a look see. I have a 289/302 valvecover in there for size reference. Needless to say I became aroused! LOL! The small video is 8megs. I need to get a digital camera BAD. But hey, the video is fun.

427 Stroker
My "Clevor" is...A 1972 351W block Stroked to 427 Cubic Inches with 1971 Cleveland 4V Heads. 4.17 Stroke .40 Bore. Ross Pistons, Scat9000 crank, Eagle H-Beam Rods, Cat steel Roller tip Rockers, Manley 2.19 Intake Valve, and 1.73 Exhaust. 12.5:1 Compression.541 Lift 292 Duration. 618HP@6500 & 567FTLBS@5000. I plan on putting mega phone type tubes within the tunnelram to bring the torque down to a lower RPM. The Tunnelram is mostly for show, but the tubes will make it work for the street. Motor is all Solid, keeps the price down! hehe.
L8R,
Rick
