427 Stroker

Greetings from the UK!

I am building a Cobra here in the UK and I have just built my first ever engine. It's only a 302 with 289 heads but hey, the achievement of hearing it start first time without a problem is incredible.

Having read this post I am now bitten! I mean, the Cobra had a 427 right?

So, if anyone would be kind enough to describe what would be required for a 500hp/500tq 427ci stroked 351 Windsor then it will be my project for this coming winter.

ANY HELP would be great! Getting hold of a 351 Winsor for rebuild is no problem and sourcing parts is not too difficult either, here in the UK.

Someone mentioned looking at the dyno pages but I've only just joined and I haven't found those pages yet. If anyone wants to send me stuff via e-mail then let me know and I'll let you have an e-mail address.

Thanks in advance guys! A great forum to join!

I'm in about 6k as of now. I also have decided on 408 cubes due to rod angle and engine life. I've heard the 408's do just as good if not better than 427 and last longer. http://loco4fomoco.com/clevor.html

fatnfast,
would you say it is worth it to spend money on a set of cleveland heads and all the machining to get them to fit my windsor block, or should i just get an aftermarket set of aluminum heads? it will either be a 393 or 408w.

IMO I'll be able to get the performance I need out of the cast Iron. I won't have the light weight, the heat disapation, or the nice look that aluminum heads offer, but I'll have half the cost invested in Iron. I had already started head work by the time Edelbrock came out with his Cleveland heads or I probably would have bought a set.

Use a 4.125 bore a 4.00 stroke and a 6.250 rod and it will give you a 1.563 rod ratio. Thats just a tad better than 1.55 RR of the 408

I've been running a 418 for the last 5-6 years. Last year it made 722 hp @ 7100 rpm, and 568 tq @ 5400 (if I remember right).

Smoked #8 piston (lean/nitrous run), so am going bigger.
0.125 over................That makes it 438 cubes.

Running AFR 205 heads (ported to the max), a custom isky solid roller cam, super vic intake, w/Biggs 950 stage 5 holley.

Hope to make a 'little more' hp/tq next year PLUS hit it all the time with 150 shot.

Strokers kick butt......................wish I would've known about them LONG ago.........could've saved so much money AND had so much MORE fun long ago................
