347 Stroker kit

I'm in the process of building my Boss302 engine and doing research in a 347 kit as the heads are a issue here ( custom pistons). I see some not so good topics using this kit because of oil consumption etc.. I plan to use this as a weekend touring with some trips to the track once and awhile. One suggestion to me is to fill the lower end of the block at least to the bottom of the frost plugs and maybe even to the bottom of the water pump holes to give the mid area to bottom of the bores more support. I also may plan some NOs someday. Cooling was also mentioned not to be a problem, any thoughts?? Thanks, Derrick

For the driving you are going to do i wouldnt worry about oil consumption.so why do you want to fill your block, because n02?

My engine builder suggest to fill it at least to the bottom of the frost plugs which will give the cylinder walls much support in that area.( is it even necessary?) Sounds logical and also could fill it to the water pump outlet level. I had concerns about over-heating, but says not a problem. Also NOS could be a option down the road. Thanks, Derrick

I have a few friends running 9.70's with a stock block that isnt filled. so i dont think you would need to fill yours. the boss block is very strong.i could be wrong about filling the block.

Thanks Tony, It does sound a little excessive for what I am going to use it for, but if the cost is minimal and the opportunity is available maybe there could be some long term benifits. Derrick

those blocks (along with most Ford blocks) are pretty strong at the bottom of the cylinders from the factory. The only blocks that I've seen that "needed" filled were GM blocks (400) that are notoriously thin at the bottom/top of the cylinder walls. My brother filled his 302 block and had nothing but problems with it. Threw it away and we now have a newer standard 5.0L block that will not be filled.

Of course, at the meager HP levels he's at, it'll take a while before he has to start worrying about the block.
