Stroking a \'79 460

I also posted this in the techboard because of more traffic, but I thought I'd post it here as well.

Does anyone know for certain if there are any problems stroking a '79 460? I want to go for a kit around 514 cid or so. I've never stroked a motor before so I don't know what if any machining is involved.

I wouldn't think machining would come into play unless I was looking for more cid than 514 or so, but I can't be sure. I do know that it should probably be checked for clearence when installed anyway.

I don't know what deck height my 460 is....most of the rotating assemblies I've seen say there are only for a 10.3" deck height. It is my understanding that the deck height increased a little bit over the years from the early 70's.

I do know that I will need to get a kit that is externally balanced on the crank.

And lastly if anyone knows of a company they would recommend to talk to about this I'd appreciate that, as well as other companies that you may have dealt with or heard about that I should stay away from. Once again I'm a stroking virgin so any input or advice is much appreciated.

Thanks for your input,

Nick

Stroking a \'79 460

I found that using the early blocks, D1VE and older eleminate most of the machining. I'm using a 4.300 stroke crank with H-beams and it all went in fine. Also, it's scat stuff and works very well. Chris
