iron head sbf stroker??

ok i want to build a 393, just buy a crank, use stock W rods and 302 pistons, not looking to spend a fortune. is there a set of stock iron cylinder heads i could use? im looking for low end torque, not some super duper high rpm setup. is it worth doing? i know all i hear is aluminum head this, aluminum head that...but i cant afford em! im trying to do this on a shoestring budget, so bear with me.

You should take a look at a set of used world sr or roush 200 heads. they are pretty cheap used and the flow good numbers. i would use them before i would a set of stock heads

Useing just near-normal numbers, your compression will go up about 1 point on a (3.5 stroke to 3.85). With something like 62 cc chambers and deck clearance close enough to keep quench, you're looking at 11.5:1. You'll have to run a big duration cam or buy dished pistons. Something like a 22cc dish will be required to get down close to 9.5:1.

but it wouldnt take much of a dish to get 10.5-10.75 range would it??? i have ran 11:1 with iron heads before, but i would like to be just alittle lower than that with this motor. what was the dish on stock 302 slugs?
thanks for the quick response

In my opinion, using a stock head that is not ported heavily negates any benefits from added displacement.

You are better off spending your money on nice heads and putting em on a stock shortblock...IMO.

If you open & polish the combustion chamber it'll lower the CR & help control detonation. A well ported set of early 351W heads will work fairly well.
