iron head sbf stroker??

ok i want to build a 393, just buy a crank, use stock W rods and 302 pistons, not looking to spend a fortune. is there a set of stock iron cylinder heads i could use? im looking for low end torque, not some super duper high rpm setup. is it worth doing? i know all i hear is aluminum head this, aluminum head that...but i cant afford em! im trying to do this on a shoestring budget, so bear with me.

Want the ultamate Sbf iron head put ya a set of 2v Cleveland heads on it 2.05 intake 1.66 exh. good for upto 5500 rpm
dont go w/ 4v heads for street or low rpm racing which 5500 is considered low. Check Price motorsports for the intake spacer needed to install any 302 intake on a 302 block w/ 351C heads. You'll need the C heads modified according to Ford Racing catalog in the back where the tech info is I think its runs about 300-350. ??? for the intake spacers & head bolt kit 1/2 shank w/ 7/16 threads Seems cheaper than Alm heads @ 1200.00 Sorry dint realize its a 351w instead of the intake spacers I believe they have a complete manifold for this .

No manifold. After you add in new valves, springs, retainers, keeper, guides, machining, surfacing, modifying - and this isn't counting finding two heads not cracked because 2V's like to crack - you could buy a set of heads. The new Dart Pro 1's sell for around $460 each at Summit. Not to be down on good 351C heads, but you have to look at the practical side of things too. You'll need a 68 cc chamber to get the motor under 11:1 OR you need to pop for pistons with something like an 18cc dish to get down around 10:1 with the 62cc chamber in the Dart heads. Any decent head will work well with that displacement - you just need to look at streetable compression ratios by browsing the piston catalogs and the head specs. Bonus - there are a lot of different 302 pistons out there.

I agree with whats been said, the 351M head is a 2v Cleveland style head and so is the 400 M head both good choices. I seen a ad a while back for a company in calfornia that was selling ported heads for $675.00 ex. ready to run. But the other posters are right by the time you rebuild stock heads you could have bought a new set, of Darts. Something to consider. You will need to do some plumbing but lots of info in the motor sports catologs on that subject. My advise buy the heads or postpone the project. Or build it with the bottom end compatibility in mind, and buy heads later.

Lots of combos on pistons try and stay in the 10:1 area mine is 12.5:1 with my combo and drive it on the street with pump gas and aditives. Replace the rod bolts if you use stock rods, and try and use the truck rods. I don't know what you have for a block. But my advise is to replace the rod bolts with good ARP bolts..

This is why you want to stay away from 351M 2V heads, 75 vintage or later. Take a good look at the exhaust port for those heads - the red line is the approximate shape of the early model port:

The D0 and D1 heads are good 2V heads. As I said - there is no intake for the C head on a W block swap. The C manifolds do not fit because the W has a higher deck and the rear sealing surface is not the same between the two blocks. Price Motorsports sells adapters - add about $225 to the cost of the intake for the adapter. You can hunt one of the used Bush swap intakes - expect to drop $450~550 for it. You said "budget" - no budget swap here.

Did you actually speak with them or just visit the web site? My bet is that there is no intake.

"The PME models above and below show what we consider the ultimate for on the street Clevor engines. This is for use with a 351W block and 351C 2V heads. PME hopes to have this manifold ready to purchase November 2001. ( An excellent replacement for those made by B & A as we kept the water hole in the same location. )

I'll bet it never went into production. The 4V page actually says it's a "future product". Same stuff that's been on their web site for years.
