vacuum advance

I recently puchased a mustang with a 347 stoker,c4 auto,twisted wedge heads,edelbrock performer intake,hooker comp headers competion cam,holley 4bl.If i pull the vacuum advance line of the unit the car dies,I'm trying to set the timing any ideas. idle is 1400 out of gear,and 1000 in gear.with the vac line hooked up timing reads 12 deg. btdc

vacuum advance

If the can is hooked to manifold vacuum, the car probably dies because there isn't enough mechanical initial advance to keep it running. If it was me, I'd just tune the mechanical advance and leave the vacuum off.

the vacuum is from the port just above the throttle plate,on a holley carb

vacuum advance

set timing by vac. gage then car ran good,pulled vac. advance,and set timing at 12 btdc,car runs great,boy my po had this thing retarded bad.
