High on Carbs (Supercharged 331 stroker)

I was very excited to find and read the series of articles here entitled "High on Carbs" demonstrating the potent combination of a 302 stroked to 331 and then supercharged. 500++ RWHP is fantastic and I had actually been planning to do something very similar for my own 65 fastback. (Although with AFR heads, RPM AirGap manifold, and a well built C4)

My question is to the staff or participants in this or like projects. What kind of gas mileage can one expect when running 1/2 fuel lines + TPC 750 blow through carb on a 10.7:1 stroker 331 with 7 pounds of vortex boost on top? Are we down to 12 miles per gallon or more like 12 gallons per mile?

Well, with 10.7:1 CR and a supercharger, you'll be changing head gaskets before you run out of gas!
I dont believe the fuel line size has any effect on your milage.
Its the total combination of parts, tuneup, gearing, weight, aerodynamics, and driving style that will determine what milage you recieve.

Understood. Mine won't be built with 10.7:1 CR like the one FordMuscle put together in their "High on Carbs" article. I'll start with much lower compression in the 8:1 or 8.5:1 area and add more boost and less retard and less octane gas then their design.

Also, I understand that a lead foot equals big gas bills. I'm really interested in knowing an approximation of mileage if the car were used in highway conditions or as a daily driver. I've built 289s and achieved 18mpg city and 20mpg highway but I'm wondering if this blown 331 would be more like sub-10mpg or a more reasonable 15+mpg....

Any thoughts?

Thanks for subscribing and your comments on the article.
The car actually gets reasonable mileage, about 15mpg on a long freeway drive. That of course is due to the overdrive T5 transmission. You will fare much worse with a C4 unfortunately.

You don't lose significant mpg or driveability with a centrifugal blower because at crusie you are not producing boost.

I get about 12mpg on average probably more if its just cruising but its real hard to stay out of it.

you won't be producing boost, but you will be eating up HP by turning the blower constantly...even though there is no boost being made. That is the biggest downside to crank-driven superchargers.

I usually get 35-38 MPG out of my SVO...and still makes decent power for a 2.3 4 banger. Got 22 out of my old 302 turbo maverick...and still made enough to split blocks, break one C4 transmission, 8" rear end among other things. thing made a TON of torque for a 302.
