393 build questions

I am building a 393 stroker for my f-150, this truck will be used for towing my jeep @5000#, daily driving, and playing in the mud. I am planning on running a performer air gap intake with a demon 750 carb, an edelbrock cam #7182, I have a set of N351 heads. I would like your opinion on this setup.

Cam specs Intake 224deg Exhaust 234deg
Lift at cam 310 325
Lift at valve 496 520

Any experience with similar setup? Info would be great.

393 build questions

I have a 393 stoker in my 66 stang.
So far just love it, not yet begun to get the most out of it at the track yet. But can tell you it has lots of torque right off idle.
For your truck and the application you say you are going to use it i am thinking you will be fine.

What compression are you planning? That is crucial for the right cam. Also, are the heads stock or have some porting done. Those heads stock dont flow alot, thats why I ask.
What year is this truck?
I know, questions questions!

The heads have some minor porting done, the compression will be 9.5-10:1

Are you zero decking the block so the pistons are flush with the deck of the block? If not, I would suggest 9.0 compression if your going to tow. Reason is when you work and engine like towing and uphill, without good quench 9.5 is high and will likely start pinging. Thats not good. With 9.0 I would use a straight pattern cam, will have more low and mid speed torque, around 218 duration @.050 on a 112 lobe center.
Thats just my opinion, I've done alot of towing engines as well and I have found keeping the compression down is key to longevity and long life.
