414 stroked heads upgrade

What I have now

4.060 bore flat tops
6.250 rods
4" stroke
cam696 int, 672 ex solid roller,106 center and separation (thinking on changing to 110 sep) dur. 267 in,,275 ex 1.6 rollers.
have world windsors from early 90"s not sure of flow, thinking 2.06 intake, may be 2.08s will check for sure with teardown. 63cc chambers
850 carb, thinking on BG 950 or 1000HP Holley
Comp. 12-12.5, headers 1 7/8, do need better headers, will go custom next year$$$$

c4, 5000 stall, 4.10 rear 28 in slicks

2840 lb car , shift 6400 traps around 66-6700rpm

1/4 mile, 10.30s,60 ft 1.44, 1/8 6.57 speed 127-128

Rather than working on the old heads, I would put the money in new, Looking at the Afr's, Edelbrocks, Brodi$, and the JegsKaase.

Open for suggestions here, sorta like the JegsKaase's not sure if the runners are to big, This is only for drag's never see the street.

Not sure if I missed any info, any help or ideas that work,,,FREE BEER!! THANKS

The Jegs/Kasse head shows some good peak flow (331/210 @ .800 on the Jegs website). I haven't seen the complete flow numbers so it's hard to get averages from say .200 to .600.

The intake is 247cc and the valves are 2.10 and 1.60 I think.

I'm partial to AFR heads, so if it were me I'd look at the AFR 225's. Smaller runner volume and valve. Peak flow 325/258 @ .800. The full flow numbers are on their website so you could average them and see what they look like. I'd guess higher velocity with the AFRs.

You've got a real serious combo running 10.30s there.....nice.

Good luck.

Talking to Brodix and like that sts1 f std 225 head, flows 334 at 700 lift. Seems like the best bang for the buck, an should see a big improvement over old world windsors.

Talked to Comp and they said the cam I have should open up with new heads and stay with it. Later, may want to go to 110 sep, but should work pretty good.

Headers are still going to hold me back, have to double check, but I think I have the 1 3/4 an not 1 7/8. Unless I get a sponser, next year on header upgrade.

Still mixed on carb, 850 has seen it's better days, Comp said 950, lot's of others said 1000hp. Need thoughts on this.

Anybody run the Brodix's cnc 225s? Not ordered yet, still have to check clearances.

Open to all ideas or suggestions, and thanks mstngjoe on post. AFR did come out with a new head, 225 dds high port, think it flows 330 at 700. Seemed like a good head, just not enough info. Not on web site, hard to get the Ford spec's as it is.

Thanks again

The AFR 225 is advertised at 317/255 @ .700 lift.

Never heard of the "dds high port".

Called the teck line 2-13 and talked to Mike (think thats his name) said they just came out with it. It's not listed anywhere yet! You have to call and ask or they will tell you about it. Price around 2250 for everything. I was interested, but for near same bucks I thought I would go with Brodix. Will post later how car does with new heads, be awhile, not going to order till next week. Car should be running mid April.

Hmmm...

No 'Mike' at AFR and the only new 225 is an LS1 head.

Could you elaborate some more on this?

Brian

Sorry on Bad Info, Talked to too many people and had bad chicken scratchings.

Total Engine Airflow is who I talked to. The new head they are taliking adout is the trick flow.
CNC-Ported High Port Head with Titanium Retainer Upgrade, Assembled

Trick flow web, Product info, ford heads, third line down. TEA, cant seem to say enough about this head, even said he would send one tobench flow myself.

Sorry on the confusion and hopes this straightens it out, fyi, I'm still confused!

Anybody had any dealings on this, would like to hear. Thanks

Well I know of a certain person who had a bad experience from TEA. He was at one time a regular poster here. I also talked to I believe it was Ed...can't remember name, but he really didn't want me to spend my money on porting so I didn't. He wanted me to buy a new set of ported 205's. Sorry, I just couldn't afford that, and still cant, so I just kept what I had, unported Edelbrocks.

I have basically the same combo. Victor Jr heads, and my cam is a 270-274 .700" 104 solid roller. Runs 6-oh's in the 1/8 (haven't seen a 5.xx pass yet!) in good air/track conditions...in the heat of summer, runs mid 6 teens at 114. All in a 2480 lb. Maverick. It does everything I want it to do and then some, so as long as it's not broken, I'm not messing with it.

I would use a AfR 205 on your motor, The smallest cross section with the minumim cross section to run the rpm you want with the smallest port volume will give you the best results.I bigger port with higher flow #'s is not always the best way to go, you have to look at the intended rpm range of the motor and how well the cylinder will work the head port.
How well the cylinder lets/works with the port to pack air/fuel mixture into the motor.
I watched a 454 cube small block ford run AFR 225"s a couple of weeks ago run 5.97 in the 1/8 shifting at 6700 rpm . the motor made 687 hp at 6200 thru 6700 rpm. I asked why the low HP # and he told me the heads/cross section was to small for anything more, that was on 454 cubes with a roller cam .7 lift 280-288 @.050 foot brake car 1.24 60 ft's 2750 lbs.
Joe Sherman made 705 hp with AFR"s on a 357 cube motor with a big roller and turned the motor up to 8400 rpm.
you motor would be right in the middle of the pair.
AFR 205 would be my choice
