Headers for my 66 Mustang which to buy???

I'm looking for Stainless Steel Ceramic Coated Shorty Headers for my edelbrock EFI 302 w/ Top Loader 4 Spd, but I have been having trouble finding what I want. I don't want to have to alter the header to add the bungs for the o2 sensors or hammer away on anything to make them fit. Has anyone squeezed any Ford Racing or JBA headers in that work? Ford Racing only shows that they fit on 1986 and up models. If not any other good header that meets my Show/Race needs would be appreciated.

Headers for my 66 Mustang which to buy???

Best to try a set of stock ones out of the bone yard. I am trying to remember if i tried a set on my 66. The set i had i was mocking them up backwards for twin turbos and do not remember setting them in there in normal position.

Have you looked into Accufab headers I just spoke with the gentleman there and he could`t have been more helpful. They make custom headers for 65 stangs right on up.Each set is made to order, so I`m sure O2 sensor bungs would not be a problem. From what I`ve seen and heard they seem to be of excellent quality

They won't fit. Period. They are designed to work in a FOX car...which has enough room to comfortably fit a 460 in. The '65-'66 is similar to a Maverick engine bay...very narrow (but not as small as a Maverick) and the FOX headers of any kind simply will not fit without modification.

Just order a set of Hedman 88400 shorties (for early mustang IIRC) and have someone weld in the bungs. I don't see why you couldn't put the O2's in behind the collectors myself, down in the exhaust pipe...just keep 'em as close to the collector as possible.

Accufab has headers listed on their website listed for 65 and up, not fox body only, I don`t know how accurate the list is.
I don`t know if they make shorties or not.

Call George at accufab. He know what he's doing and can tell you if they fit or not . Ive had several sets made at accufab. They do stuff no one else does but sometimes the attention to detail is a bit lacking. No O2 bungs when they were requested or welded on the wrong side of the headers . I have yet to get a set from them that was 100% what I asked for. My latest set SORT OF fit the car they were designed to fit. Only had to move two tubes and get out the clearancing hammer. Anyone else make 2 inch primary small block headers with an AFR 225 bolt pattern to fit a 67-70 chassis? Nope.

Re: Headers for my 66 Mustang which to buy???

What was the verdict?

I am having the same issue right now.

I have a 5.0 EFT, rack and pinion, and T-5 cable clutch.

Long tubes...def. wont fit. I just returned them (cost $30 to ship back).

I just ordered BBK shorties for 86-90 5.0

Someone on another thread just said that the BBK will not fit.

My research says only JBA and Hedman are guaranteed to fit (shorties).

Patriot supposedly will fit as well. I don't want to spend over $200 for JBA or ceramic coating but I don't want crap either (I just want the best bang for my buck)

HELP :-)

Re: Headers for my 66 Mustang which to buy???

Which rack and pinion? My '65 had the Flaming River set up when I bought it. According to them, Sanderson Headers sells a set that will fit. The first set Sanderson sent me didn't work - the collector came out right on top of the steering shaft - but they're sending me a new driver's side header that exits 3" closer to the shock tower. It should clear both the r&p and cable clutch. I'll update once it arrives (Wed or Tr) and it's on the car.

Call Stan's headers in Auburn WA. They make the headers for Fordpowertrain (FPA). By far the best I've seen.
